Let’s get ready for the new year
It is always so exciting to start a new year! …a new beginning.
It has become my tradition to start by choosing ONE main word for the year. I love the idea of the simplicity to sum it up into one word.
Some years the words almost came ‘screaming’ at me, like FOCUS! CALM! or SKILL!
This year, the first of January came and I still had not chosen a word.
Today I finally slowed down, DID NOTHING, and just allowed myself to listen and get a feeling for it. And here we go:
EXPLORE
I feel like playing, exploring, and just seeing what happens! I would like to take my paintings as a departure point and take them in different directions, for example:
- How would this painting look as a sculpture?
- Or why not work on paper in a small format (instead of painting on a canvas)
Usually, I always make a list to break down my goals into manageable goals and it really works. This year, with my theme, EXPLORE that would probably be contra-productive. I will let myself be free and see where it takes me.
But I am also aware that:

I am in general someone who draws and paints a lot (since I sketch outdoors regularly) but this year I will create on 5 days per week (even if it is for 5 minutes)! I will keep you posted on how my exploration year is going.

When you read the paragraph before, what word spontaneously popped into YOUR mind?
If nothing came to your mind, make yourself a cup of tea, look for a cozy place, and simply ‘be’ for a moment. It is just wonderful how a word appears. It would be fantastic if you comment below YOUR word. The moment we declare something public it makes it more serious and there is a bit of accountability there.
